milkmandan.org outage

| | Comments (6)

It seems that due to either a power outage or feline hijinx (infinitely more likely), the milkmandan.org server went down last night sometime after midnight. But now it's back up.

This has highlighted a shortcoming in my network: if the server isn't yet up, I can't use the workstation for much because the DNS is housed on the server. The mini-DNS on my router isn't capable enough to handle pushed connection information from DHCP'd machines, so I put the DNS on the server. Before this happened, there were occasional timeouts as machines tried to use the DNS before they fell back on WINS.

I wanted to make a request, at the substantial risk of being a complete ass: Could the color templates for /dev/null and /0xc0debabe be changed to be a little more distinct? I sometimes absent mindedly select one from a bookmark and then forget what I'm reading and ultimately get very confused for the few seconds it takes me (in my confused state, mind you) to look at the address bar. I mean, the rest of the formatting is so very much alike. Content is different, hence the confusion when I think Dan is talking about makeovers.

It doesn't really matter, and I'm being an ass, so really it's a comment and not a request.

Thanks.

Yeah, it's a valid complaint. I've been meaning to update the title bar at the top of the front page for a while, but haven't yet gotten around to it.

Of course, I'm not sure that fixing the title bar would help more than it already does...it's not like they have the blog name in giant letters.

If you can suggest an awesome color that I wouldn't mind having as my background, I will consider changing mine.

Green?

Layla: you could multi-color the words like your notes. Maybe a pink background? :P

There you go Rob, you should have no probelm being able to tell it is my page now :-)
