Virtual Spiders

I just watched a clip, Overcoming Arachnophobia, on Today linked from http://video.msn.com. First off, I have to admit that I watch msn videos all the time now. It is a great alternative to having TV.

Anyways, back to the point. Half paying attention, I heard Seattle, so I started paying attention. It turns out that there is a guy, Hunter Hoffman who specializes in helping people overcome their fears of spiders. I am not afraid of spiders, nor do I know anyone who is, but the process was intriguing.

Hoffman uses virtual spiders to get people to confront the fear. Both his studies and other studies at The Human Interface Technology Lab in Seattle have range of applications. Another area of work is in pain control.

Yet another thing going on in WA.
