Chicks on the internet
Now that I have your attention ...
The first thing that popped into your mind was a bunch of articles written by a woman, right? No?!?
A few days ago Dan mentioned the new lego-cased external hard drives. After my initial amused reaction he sent me the link.
Aside from the fact that lego+hard drive == pretty cool, the link itself is interesting in my opinion. The site is chip chick. This blog is dedicated to giving a girl's view of new gadgets and overall tech news. Some of the articles seem very main stream. There are also items that seem silly.
I can't say that I am surprised that there are girls regularly blogging about techie things, but it is nice to see it. Looking around the site, I found that they have a small aggregation of other geek-girl bloggers.
For all I know, there are more girls out there doing this type of thing than guys, but I somehow doubt it. Good thing I am not a feminist! I would probably hate myself for my narrow mindedness. Really though, I haven't really expected to find any large quantity of quality tech information online coming from girls.
It is only fair to mention that I have also not been seeking out sites created by girls. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I am getting into blogging myself for the first time, that I even noticed it was a girl's site. Either way, I think it is neat and I will start to pay a bit more attention.
I don't think I will actually join, but it looks like girls can join in and get assigned gadgets to write about. I don't have any real reason for not joining in myself, other than being timid, I guess. Eh, who knows. I would love to hear about any of you (the girl, maybe girls who read this) being involved in anything like this.
Well, if nothing else, now you have yet another place to find out about the latest tech goodies and news, but with a dash of girly.

You aren't a feminist? i.e. you don't believe in social, political and economic equality for both men and women? how odd.

I believe in equal treatment. I don't believe in forced job allocation based on sex.
If someone, anyone, is getting treated wrongfully in the work place I believe that that issue should be addressed.
What it comes down to is the difference between what feminism truly is (should be imo) vs. what it becomes in the hands of many activists.
Equal opportunity: I am all about it. Ensuring a woman gets a job because she is a woman, even if she is less qualified? No—I just can't say that I agree.
I also don't think that there should be some quota of women involved in everything just for the sake of it.
The reason that I don't call myself a feminist is because I think that there are too many things done that I don't agree with to blankly take the title. Equal opportunity for women, you bet!
